Friday 18 November – Tuesday 20 December 2016
2016 marks the 10th anniversary of Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market!
Winchester is a must-visit destination for all those wishing to experience a traditional Christmas. The city justly claimed to be England’s Christmas Capital and its Cathedral is at the heart of the festivities with a stunning Christmas Market and real Ice Rink dominating its beautiful and historic Close.
From its relatively modest beginnings, the Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market now attracts over 350,000 visitors each year and has achieved a reputation as being amongst the very best in Europe. Within the stunning surroundings of the Cathedral’s historic Inner and Outer Close you’ll find over 100 attractive wooden chalets brimming with goodies. The stallholders are individually selected by the Cathedral’s in-house team to ensure superior quality, uniqueness and that a wide range of products are available. Each year there’s a rotation of stallholders and a good percentage of invited new traders to keep the market fresh. There’s a strong emphasis on British and artisan amongst the stallholders. Look out for Hampshire’s finest cheese and sourdough toasties – these alone are reason to return regularly!
Opening times: 10am – 6pm Sunday – Wednesday and 10am – 7.30pm Thursday – Saturday
Food and drink
There’s plenty of choice when it comes to food and drink at the Christmas Market. You’ll find chalets selling festive favourites such as mulled wine, bratwurst, mince pies and stollen. Alternatively, the Cathedral Refectory and ice rink café provide a warm and comfortable setting with plenty of seating and great menus.
Tour operators and group organisers visiting the Christmas Market are asked to contact the Cathedral’s Visitor Team on 01962 857 225 or email firstname.lastname@example.org .
Although entry to the Christmas Market is free the Cathedral does ask that all coaches book in advance as it helps to manage coach drop off and parking in the city, providing the best service to your tour-goers. The Cathedral offers a ‘meet and greet’ service for groups and can assist in arranging entry and tours of the Cathedral and refreshments.
Access and facilities
The Christmas Market is situated in the Cathedral Inner and Outer Close. Although there is wheelchair access throughout the site, we cannot provide access to all of our chalets. We have a team of stewards on duty at all times who are happy to provide assistance if requested.
Disabled toilets and baby changing facilities are available in the Cathedral Visitors’ Centre.
